Late morning, we traveled a few miles to Orne Harbor. It is ringed with glaciers and steep peaks with stunning scenery. This afternoon we boarded our Zodiacs for an exploration of the area and search for wildlife.
The Zodiac is dwarfed by the glacier touching the sea.
Entering the harbor, the Zodiac struggled against surface ice. A leopard seal on a small iceberg was content watching us pass.
Along the shoreline we discovered a colony of chinstrap penguins. They are a smaller bird and nest in steeper rocky locations.
We met up with a team of Octantis researcher retrieving their fish cams. These are the units that Jan and I helped make chum as fish bait in the laboratory. Later that evening, we viewed the day's fish cam video recordings.
Returning to the ship, a large humpback whale was playfully swimming near the bow. It hung around for several hours.
