Drake Passage is the body of water between South America and the South Shetland Islands of Antarctica. This 600-mile journey is one of the most treacherous voyages for ships to make. Winds are frequently more than 30 kts. creating waves of up to 40 feet. We departed Ushuaia at 8:00 PM Wednesday and began the 40-hour journey across Drake Passage about 11:00 PM.
We were prepared for rough seas with medication and every folk remedy that had been suggested! Fortunately, the sea god Neptune was looking out for us, and the crossing was as smooth as glass! We spent the day picking out gear and boots (furnished by the ship) and attending presentations telling us exactly what we had signed up for.
Glad you didn"t have rough seas. Aren't you supposed to read up what your signing up for before you actually sign up for it. :)
